As a chemist, I have not only excelled within academia but also within professional organizations and the community. I have been a visionary and trustworthy leader. An as ACS volunteer for 42 years, my volunteer service, passion, and commitment have been demonstrated by my leadership positions in various capacities. I served on the board of directors of the American Chemical Society (2013-2021) and now serving on the Board of Directors of SACNAS. I have demonstrated my commitment to work closely with students as a 32 years Student Chapter’s Faculty Adviser, with volunteers in the USA and many other countries to communicate the value of chemistry as the Founder of the very successful Chemistry Festival outreach program and Co-Founder of the Spanish webinar series. I have been an international networking facilitator, working to engage with and support thousands of national and international volunteers. I have established strategic relationships with many partner international and national societies.
As a researcher, together with my students, I have made more than three hundred presentations. I have been a special guest at various conferences in the United States, Puerto Rico, and other countries. I have also received several awards as a Fellow from the American Chemical Society and the International Society of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC. In 2020, I was selected as one of the 100 inspiring Hispanic /Latinx scientists in America and also received the highest recognition of the Puerto Rico Chemist Association “Dr. Osvaldo Ramírez-Toro Award”. In 2017, was selected as one of the twelve IUPAC 2017 Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering of the world. In 2012 received the ACS Volunteer Service Award, since 2013, Honorary Member, Golden Key International Honour Society, and has received many recognitions In Puerto Rico, the USA, and internationally.
